tear down, not break down

September 21, 2008

I (Daddy) was reading a story in the Friend to the boys. It was a story about two brothers who encouraged and uplifted each other. We then had a discussion about how we can follow that example. Micah then made the comment, "Jacob breaks down Ben all the time." I quickly defended Jacob and expected him to stand up for himself. Instead he said, "Micah it's 'tear down'; I 'tear down' Ben all the time, not 'break down'." At least he's honest about himself...

The Luv Cub

December 17, 2006

This is an entry from Tyler, so I'll just enter it exactly as he wrote it.

Jacob was getting dressed for church with his Luv Cub (toy bear that whines for hugs and food, etc.) next to him. I walked in the room and he said, "This Luv Cub keeps bothering me! He keeps on asking for hugs and stuff while I'm trying to get dressed." I quickly pointed out that he should now know how a parent feels...

Dad's realization

September 18, 2008

I (Daddy) told Jacob at least 100 times, it seemed, to go brush his teeth before bed. When he finally started going to do it, he was moving very slowly towards the bathroom. I grew impatient and told him to hurry up. He continued slowly. I made another comment to him emphasizing how slowly he was going, to which he replied somewhat in defense, "But I am going!" His rebuttal caused me to pause and think about what he was really saying-he was telling me in essence to recognize what he was doing right-that he was at least headed in the right direction, however slow his progress might have seemed to me. I need to work on my patience with the kids.

Free time

September 18, 2008

I just saw the boys (Micah and Jacob) off to school, out the garage on their bikes. As Jacob was leaving he said, "Enjoy your free time!" I said, "I don't have any free time, I still have Ben and Peyton." He replied, "Enjoy your free time without us." Sweet boy, I just told him I would miss him while he was at school.

More Birthdays

September 18, 2008

A few months ago we were discussing how old Peyton was (in months) and Micah made a comment about how she has more birthdays than us right now because she's a baby.

He'll play hard games when he's married

September 3, 2008

Ben was in the van and Tyler and I were standing by the open door kissing each other goodbye. I said, "Ben, do we look like we're married?" He said yes and then Tyler asked him if he was married. Ben smiled his shy smile and answered, "Yes." Tyler asked, "to who?" Ben said, "To mommy too." Tyler said, "Are you going to marry someone else when you get older?" Ben replied, "Yes, like you and mommy, and play hard games." (Ben is always wanting to play games from our game cabinet that are too advanced for him.)

Mewwead (married)

September 3, 2008

This morning Ben came to me while I was sitting on the floor and gave me a big hug and a kiss. When he pulled back he said, "We look like we're mewwead (married)." He is so cute and sweet and I get a kick out of the way he says things. He has a big interest in people getting married these days.
