fasting means no stopping playing to eat

I (Daddy) was talking to Micah about next month being his first fast Sunday since he will be baptized at the end of this month. I asked him if he was excited. He smiled and said, "Yes, but I'm going to be starving!" He then thought some more and said, "But then I won't have to stop playing when it's time for lunch!" Way to look at the bright side Micah :)

Don't thank me.

Jacob thanked Micah for finishing their job of cleaning out the van. Micah said, "Don't thank me, Daddy's the one that forced me to do it."

We can throw boogies out the window.

October 31, 2008

Ben and Peyton and I were driving in the van and Ben had a piece of trash in his hand (candy wrapper). He asked me to open his window and I said, "Don't throw that trash out the window!" He said, "We only throw ??? out the window?" I could tell what he said so I replied, "We don't throw anything out the window." He said, "We can throw Boogies out the window?" I said, "Oh yes, we can throw boogies out the window."

guess I'm too fat

October 29, 2008

A few days ago I put on a pair of really thick joke glasses and asked Tyler and the boys if I looked like Professor Trelawny from Harry Potter. Tyler said I could dress up like her for Halloween. Micah said, "You'd have to lose A LOT of weight." Thanks Micah.

Because I'm so old now

October 29, 2008

Today, Micah and I (Daddy) were driving home from his first pack meeting as an "almost" cub scout. I told him he would be old enough to be an actual cub scout by his first den meeting next Wednesday since his birthday is next Tuesday. He perked up and said, "Wow, I didn't realize it was almost my birthday! That's because I'm getting old. I don't think about things all the time and get excited anymore because I'm so old now." (He's turning 8 next Tuesday). Oh, to be young(er) again!

Up on stage

October 27, 2008

Tonight I (Daddy) was helping Micah with his piano practice. I told him he was doing very well, which he was. He paused and somewhat matter of factly said, " Someday you're going to see me up on stage."

not old

October 27, 2008

This morning Tyler came into the boys room and asked Micah if he got his scarf caught in his bike a few days ago and Sis. Saunders had to help him. I said, "Oh, is that who helped him? I never found out who it was." Micah said, "I didn't know who it was either, just an old lady and an old man." I said, "Sis. Saunders isn't old." Micah said, "They had white hair and wrinkles on their faces."

tear down, not break down

September 21, 2008

I (Daddy) was reading a story in the Friend to the boys. It was a story about two brothers who encouraged and uplifted each other. We then had a discussion about how we can follow that example. Micah then made the comment, "Jacob breaks down Ben all the time." I quickly defended Jacob and expected him to stand up for himself. Instead he said, "Micah it's 'tear down'; I 'tear down' Ben all the time, not 'break down'." At least he's honest about himself...

The Luv Cub

December 17, 2006

This is an entry from Tyler, so I'll just enter it exactly as he wrote it.

Jacob was getting dressed for church with his Luv Cub (toy bear that whines for hugs and food, etc.) next to him. I walked in the room and he said, "This Luv Cub keeps bothering me! He keeps on asking for hugs and stuff while I'm trying to get dressed." I quickly pointed out that he should now know how a parent feels...

Dad's realization

September 18, 2008

I (Daddy) told Jacob at least 100 times, it seemed, to go brush his teeth before bed. When he finally started going to do it, he was moving very slowly towards the bathroom. I grew impatient and told him to hurry up. He continued slowly. I made another comment to him emphasizing how slowly he was going, to which he replied somewhat in defense, "But I am going!" His rebuttal caused me to pause and think about what he was really saying-he was telling me in essence to recognize what he was doing right-that he was at least headed in the right direction, however slow his progress might have seemed to me. I need to work on my patience with the kids.

Free time

September 18, 2008

I just saw the boys (Micah and Jacob) off to school, out the garage on their bikes. As Jacob was leaving he said, "Enjoy your free time!" I said, "I don't have any free time, I still have Ben and Peyton." He replied, "Enjoy your free time without us." Sweet boy, I just told him I would miss him while he was at school.

More Birthdays

September 18, 2008

A few months ago we were discussing how old Peyton was (in months) and Micah made a comment about how she has more birthdays than us right now because she's a baby.

He'll play hard games when he's married

September 3, 2008

Ben was in the van and Tyler and I were standing by the open door kissing each other goodbye. I said, "Ben, do we look like we're married?" He said yes and then Tyler asked him if he was married. Ben smiled his shy smile and answered, "Yes." Tyler asked, "to who?" Ben said, "To mommy too." Tyler said, "Are you going to marry someone else when you get older?" Ben replied, "Yes, like you and mommy, and play hard games." (Ben is always wanting to play games from our game cabinet that are too advanced for him.)

Mewwead (married)

September 3, 2008

This morning Ben came to me while I was sitting on the floor and gave me a big hug and a kiss. When he pulled back he said, "We look like we're mewwead (married)." He is so cute and sweet and I get a kick out of the way he says things. He has a big interest in people getting married these days.

Oh, Micah

July 26, 2008

Micah was sent to his room after yelling in Aunt Morgan's face when she laughed at Micah's reaction to hitting his head on a wall. Morgan laughed even harder after Micah yelled in her face-understandably so because it was quite an over-reaction. In fact we all laughed at it. I (Daddy) went to talk to Micah in his room. At the end of our conversation, I suggested he go apologize to Morgan for yelling in her face. To which he replied, "Why do I need to apologize, she liked what I did to her?" Oh, Micah...

Our quick witted child

July 26, 2008

It's Saturday morning and Jacob came to lay in bed with Tyler and me, right between us. Tyler said, "I can't believe how big you are." Jacob immediately said, "I can't believe how stinky your breath is."

Doorknobs and kittens

June 25, 2008

Jacob was in the laundry room waiting to leave for the store. He was holding the doorknob on the door out to the garage. Charlotte, the new kitten we got, was in the laundry room too. Jacob said, "Man, I'm getting used to a lot of new stuff: Charlotte, this doorknob..." (I (Daddy) had recently replaced the doorknob). He tried to think of more stuff, but couldn't, and just walked out to the van.

It's like a whole other language

June 16, 2008

At the Grizzlies baseball game Jacob got one of the opposing teams autographs. Micah was asking on the way home what the players name was. Tyler and I told him we didn't know. I said that autographes were sometimes hard to read. Jacob said, "Yeah, like they speak our language but they write different."

Saturday, June 14, 2008

I think I'll take that spot now.

June 14, 2008

Benjamin was taking a nap on the playroom couch and then I saw him asleep on the playroom floor. I asked Micah if Ben had gotten off the couch and layed down on the floor. He said, "No, I put him there so I could lay on the couch." He said this very matter of fact.

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Mmmm, tator totters

June 4, 2008

Tyler had just taken part of a teeter totter out of the shed and Jacob asked what it was. Tyler told them it was part of a teeter totter that he was going to make for them. Jacob ran inside and came back out with Micah and said, "Look at the tator totter Daddy's going to make for us!"

Arm wrestling

June 4, 2008

Jacob and I (Daddy) were arm wrestling. He beat me a few times and then I started beating him. After beating him the second time, he said, "Ok, only one more time, you're knocking the wind out of my arm."

Number blind?

June 1, 2008

Ben, Jake, and I (Daddy) were playing Barrell O' Monkeys and it was Ben's turn. He picked up some monkeys and started counting how long his string of monkeys was. He counted them wrong to which Jacob said, "I heard someone say Ben might be colorblind, well, I think he's number blind too."

Saturday, May 31, 2008

That's what Daddy does, eats everything, it's true.

May 31, 2008

In a very sweet voice Jacob said to Tyler, "When are you going to get me my lemonade? You're just standing there eating everything."

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Great present baby, thanks.

May 27, 2008

Benjamin pooped in the toilet again this evening while I was on the phone. I wanted to give him plenty of praise for it but had to wait until after the fact since I was on the phone. Anyhow, when I told him how proud I was of him and what a good job he'd done, he said, "It's like a present in the toilet."

What is your secret favorite color?

May 20, 2008

A few days ago Jacob told me that his favorite color was pink. I said, "I thought your favorite color was green?" He told me that his secret favorite color was pink but not to tell any of his guy friends because they would make fun of him. He said, "You can tell people in our family, like Ben and Micah and Daddy and Nana Paula and Aunt Morgan, anyone in our family."

This morning he said, "Dog's fur and water are the warmest things in the world."

she was just trying to make a point son!

May 11, 2008

A few months ago in primary Sister Lori Pope was giving the lesson for sharing time and she was trying to do an object type of lesson. She was telling the kids how she had this tree in her backyard and the leaves were changing color and falling off and she was really worried that it was dying. Ok, it was more than a few months ago, maybe it was the end of fall. Anyway, Micah says, "You must not be very smart then." He knew this happened to trees in the fall. I was told by several adults that witnessed this embarassement that he didn't say this rudely, but very matter of fact. How embarassing!

sometimes the tears just come

May 1, 2008

This morning I was nursing Peyton in her room and I could hear Micah trying to wake Jacob up. He was scared and wanted Jacob to go with him to the bathroom. I called to him and told him I was right there and he came to the bathroom. He called out to me to tell me, "I am just so scared I got tears."

Can bees speak with their umbilical chords?

April 29, 2008

On our way home from T-Ball Micah was talkng to Peyton. He said, "Come on Peyton, use your umbilical cords and talk to me."

After we got home Tyler was getting a snack for the boys, honey on saltines. Jacob said, "Mmmm, honey is my favorite, I'm glad we have bees."

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Hey boy, were your owners killed?

April 20, 2008

There was a dog on our porch this morning and it was very friendly and wearing a collar with no tags. Jacob could just not stay away from the dog and was very concearned about it, he said it looked cold and hungry. We kept telling him that the dog was fine and that he had an owner. He came in and said, "Maybe a bad guy stole his tags and killed his owners."

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Got it, thanks.

April 12, 2008

Jacob told Tyler, "Your head looks weird, and it looks skinny, and your neck is small." After he said this, Tyler repeated it in a funny voice and Jacob said, "You should write that down."

Friday, April 11, 2008

our own child labor

April 11, 2008

Jacob said while working in the front yard with our relandscaping project, "Mommy, you know what's a good thing to have a lot of kids for? They could all help do the work around the house."

Thursday, April 3, 2008

town, country, same difference, he's gone

April 3, 2008

Tyler was out of town again yesterday and Jacob said, "Daddy goes out of town a lot." I said, "Yes, he does." Jacob then said, "He's always in another country."

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

some people see a plane, my kid sees Chinese

April 1, 2008

This morning when I was walking Jacob to school he made a comment about how pretty the sky was. I said something about the clouds being wispy. Jacob said, "They look like Chinese writing."

Monday, March 31, 2008

Have you been bathtized?

March 31, 2008

All three boys were in the tub, and since it was late we were also doing Family Home Evening. Tyler read a story called Baptism Miracles. Despite all of the challenges a mother, father and son made it to their baptism. Jacob said, "So what's the miracle in them making it to their bathtism?"

sometimes pooping can set you behind

March 31, 2008

We were running very late for Karate and I think I was telling Tyler that Micah was hungry and wanted a snack and then he had to go to the bathroom. Micah said something like, "I had to poop, and you know how that is when I have to poop." or maybe it was, "I had to poop, and you know how that goes." Oh boy do we! (Micah takes a really long time)

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

No one came

March 11, 2008

Last Thursday we went to Micah and Jacob's open house. As we were leaving Jacob got on the stage in the ampitheater and said, "Thank you, thank you, for everybody that came, oh, zero people came, oh well." It was just very cute and funny.

No peace in our house

March 3, 2008

Tonight Micah came in from the front yard very excited about an Olive branch he had found that had fallen off of one of our trees. He said he could use it to make a thing like on the back of a quarter, an eagle holding an olive branch. Jacob grabbed it out of his hand and said something about getting it out of the house because we were allergic to it. Micah got very angry and said that he wasn't allergic to olive trees. I said, "Well, I am, but that's beside the point, no tree stuff in the house, take it outside." He yelled, "FINE!" and slammed the door behind him. When he came back in he was crying and very upset. He said, in his sarcastic tone, "Oh this is just great, so you're allergic to the sign of peace. We can have no peace in our house."

Church shoes

March 3, 2008

Last Thursday night Tyler and I were going to the stake center to have out temple recommends signed. We told the boys to get their shoes on. They had just had a bath and were wearing their pajamas. We told them that we were going to the church. Ben came out of his room wearing one of his church shoes and said, "Daddy, are these my church shoes?"

Monday, February 25, 2008

I guess she's just an angry dog

February 25, 2008

This afternoon, Jacob was looking endearingly at Peyton and said, "peyton is really cute. She's so cute she should be a dog."

On the way home from Karate, Micah looked at Peyton and said, "Peyton always looks angry. Did me, or Jake, or Ben ever look like that?"

Poor Diego

February 24, 2008

This morning, well, about 12pm, before church I was tidying up. I made the bed and then went to the hamper to put a dirty shirt in it. I was startled to see Diego, our dog, cowering inside the hamper. Tyler asked Jacob if he had put him in there and Jacob got a surprised look on his face and said, "Oh yeah, I forgot." I guess he'd been in there for a while, poor dog! It's a good thing Peyton spit up on my shirt or he would have been in there at least 3 1/2 more hours while we were at church!

Monday, February 4, 2008

Micah's hair infection.

February 4th, 2008

Tyler went up to Micah's bed to help him get taken care of because he's been sick. Tyler was going to give him some eye drops for his eye infection, he said his ears hurt too. Tyler said, "Well, I think you have an ear infection and an eye infection and a sinus infection." Tyler then gave Micah his eye drops and some ran down the side of his face and he went to wipe them away and felt his hair and said, "I think I have a hair infection too because my hair is all hard."

Saturday, February 2, 2008

What's that smell?

February 2, 2008

Ben crawled in bed between Tyler and I to watch an episode of The Brady Bunch and Tyler had recently tooted under the covers. Ben said, with a disgusted face, "What's that smell?" Tyler said, "Sorry, Daddy tooted." Ben replied very angrily, "Daddy, you need to go pee pee in the bathroom!" He said this a few times, getting more and more angry each time.

Rise and shine

January 27, 2008

Ben came in our room this morning and asked where Peyton was. I told him she was asleep on our bed and he climbed right up next to her. He told me that he wanted to hold Peyton and I said that he could once she woke up. He got right next to her and said, "Rise and shine Peyton!"

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Wow! Better than Christmas huh?

January 23, 2008

Micah held Peyton a few minutes ago and I had to take her to feed her and as I was walking away Micah said, "I love Peyton more than Christmas!"

Later this evening Jacob told me that Peyton was better than Christmas. I'd have to agree with them both!

Sunday, January 20, 2008

"Wister"

January 20, 2008

My last night in the hospital Tyler stayed at Nana Byn's and Papa Ron's with the boys. The next morning, Monday, at breakfast, Jacob said that he was going to marry Peyton. That got a lot of laughs from eberyone there, but Micah said, "You can't marry her! She's your sister!" If you married her she'd be your wister." (you know, like wife and sister mixed)

Monday, January 14, 2008

Is my what hurting?!

January 14, 2008

This happened just 4 days before Miss Peyton was born.

Earlier tonight Benjamin asked me what was wrong. I told him that I was having some pain in my belly. He said, "Is your Peyton hurting?"

Sunday, January 13, 2008

"Don't Walk"

January 13, 2008

A few days ago Ben and I were in the van making a U turn and Ben noticed the "Don't Walk" sign. You know, a little stick figure like man turned sideways walking? Anyway, he really started to laugh and said, "Mommy, that man have no hands!" (mind you he was 2 at this time) I said, "That man has no hands?" He replied, "Yeah, and that man has no hair!" Next time you are out and about, take a look, he's right.

Soon after this, I was at home helping get the playroom cleaned up. Jacob was watching Micah play a video game. I got in his way while putting something away and he said, "Mommy, your big fat bum is in the way!" Yikes, they sure tell it like it is.

My little helper, Jacob

January 6, 2008

I wasn't feeling well and was laying down. Ben was still in the tub and was ready to get out. I asked Jacob if he could get Ben his towel. He left my room to help Ben and awhile later I was calling for Ben to bring me a diaper because I didn't want him to "potty" anywhere. Well, Jacob said that Ben was almost ready. He had gotten Ben out of the tub, had him drain the water, dried him off, diapered him and gotten him completely dressed for church! Socks, shoes, tie, undershirt, the whole works, and he looked great. Jacob said that he liked doing it, it was fun!
